Preconception, Pregnancy, and Postpartum Care
Preconception visits: we'll discuss your overall health, medical history, medications and supplements, genetic history, nutrition, and timing of pregnancy. We'll review how to track when you are most likely to be fertile. If indicated, screening tests and lab work can be ordered. Preconception visits are available in person or by telehealth.
Pregnancy: free consultations are available to see if Vibrant Wellness Midwifery is a good fit for you and the care you are seeking. We are currently attending births in the home setting and are in the process of applying for admitting privileges at a local hospital.
Visits are customized to your needs, and are typically 30-60 minutes long. Initially, visits are every 4 weeks. In the 3rd trimester, every 2 weeks. At 36 weeks, we visit you in your home to plan for the upcoming birth and then see you weekly in our office until the birth.
We use a shared decision-making model, in order to provide the care that is best for you.
We offer and will discuss with you, the risks and benefits of lab work, screenings, ultrasounds, and vaccinations.
During labor and birth, the midwife will provide labor support, listen to the fetal heart rate, and monitor vital signs.
We will develop a safe plan of transfer for you and your child, should a higher level of care become necessary at any point during the pregnancy or birth.
Our midwives are equipped to handle emergencies, and carry medications, IV fluid, emergency equipment, and sutures to every birth. We are trained in basic life support and neonatal resuscitation.
A midwife is on call at all times during your pregnancy.
Postpartum: we provide care for you and your infant in the days and weeks following your birth. We will see you in your home several times during the week following your birth. We then see you in the office 4-6 weeks following the birth.
We will monitor your infant's weight and provide newborn screenings.
We provide infant feeding support.
We will examine you and your infant.
We will address any physical and emotional needs.
At the 4-6 week visit, we provide a physical exam and Pap smear, if needed. We discuss physical and emotional needs, as well as family planning and birth control.
In home care: if you are giving birth in the hospital, we can still offer in home postpartum care. Please call to set this up.
